Yemen attacks ship for violating ban and it is sinking

The Yemeni Armed Forces have announced a naval strike against a commercial vessel in the Red Sea, claiming the ship was en route to Israeli ports and is now sinking.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Yemeni Armed Forces have announced a naval strike against a commercial vessel in the Red Sea, claiming the ship was en route to Israeli ports and is now sinking.

According to Mehr, in a statement issued Monday—its second of the day—the Yemeni military said that the targeted vessel, named Magic Seas, was hit using two unmanned surface vehicles (drone boats), five ballistic and guided missiles, and three aerial drones. The operation was described as part of Yemen’s ongoing campaign to enforce a maritime ban on ships bound for occupied Palestinian ports.

According to the statement, the Magic Seas belonged to a company that violated this restriction. Yemeni forces reportedly issued prior warnings to the vessel, which were ignored. The military claimed the ship was struck directly, resulting in structural damage and flooding. The crew was allowed to evacuate safely, they added.

“Our actions come in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and their resistance, and reaffirm our commitment to preventing the movement of Israeli-linked ships in the Red and Arabian Seas,” the statement read.

Yemeni authorities emphasized that the attack followed multiple warnings and communication attempts with the ship’s operators. The statement concluded by underscoring that the operation was designed to uphold Yemen’s declared naval blockade and to send a message of deterrence.
